Kayaking Langkawi’s Mangrove Forest

Where seawater and freshwater meet, Mangrove forests flourish.

To escape the heat of Langkawi’s beaches, I headed to the other side of the island to explore the tangle of roots, wildlife and mud that crawls above the water on Kayaking trip with Dev’s Adventure Tours.

Offering flora and fauna eco-tours, Dev’s Adventure Tours is a small operator on the island that works to bring guests close to nature without harming the precious landscapes. From mangrove kayak tours to jungle excursions, the company strives to educate and entertain; leaving visitors with a better understanding of the areas’ ecosystems.

Hopping aboard a two-person sea kayak, we paddled through the narrow passages and tested the current as it gently flowed with the sea tides.

The vine-like roots sprouted from the water like spider-legs and created creepy-crawly homes for all sorts of creatures. During our trip we enjoyed close encounters with snakes, lizards, fuzzy little monkeys and even dive-bombing eagles before maneuvering our way back to a floating restaurant for lunch and our boat ride to the dock.
