Each droplet of water crashing over Tamanawas Falls takes your breath away.
The Hike: From the trailhead follow Cold Creek as it meanders down the eastern slopes of Mt. Hood and through dense evergreen forests for 2.0 miles to reach this impressive waterfall. The trail is easy and very family friendly with two bridge crossings and some fun little off-shoot trails to explore the bubbling waters and lush foliage. Take your time, enjoy the walk, and make sure to give yourself extra time to explore the falls. This is truly a magical spot.
Getting there: From Highway 26, follow the highway east, passing through the community of Government Camp, to the intersection with Highway 35. Take the right split onto northbound Highway 35 toward Hood River. Drive for 15.4 miles to mile post 72. Just past the Sherwood Campground is the gravel parking lot on the left hand side for the Tamanawas Falls trail. Or from I-84, follow the highway east to the town of Hood River. Take exit 64 for Mt. Hood Highway / Highway 35. Drive for 24 miles to mile post 73. Gravel parking lot for the trailhead will be on your right.
